Spain is one of the world??s leading destinations in the tourist industry there is more to this country than just beaches and islands. The country is situated on the Iberian peninsula. Spain also encompasses two groups of islands, The Balearic Islands (Islas Baleares), in the Mediterranean, coast and the Canary Islands (Islas Canarias) which lie off the Atlantic coast of Morocco. The Balearic Islands have ferry services to the mainland running to Barcelona, Valencia and Denia. Please bear in mind that car hire companies do normally not allow to transport a rental vehicle on board.

Without any doubt, one of the best things for every visiting Spain is its food and wines. While some areas of the country like the Rioja are well known worldwide because of its excellent wines, most of Spain is famous for excellent fish and meat dishes. The northern areas for example Galicia, offers excellent seafood and meat dishes whilst the valencian area, especially between Valencia and Alicante is famous for their paella and gambas.

In my opinion Malaga is one of the greatest places in Spain to visit at summer. In Malaga, you will be able to enjoy the amazing old world architecture that makes the city so unique. Some of the most famous attractions include the Castle of Gibralfaro, the Malaga Civic Center, the Cathedral of Malaga and of course La Malagueta Beach. The sea shore is one of the main attracting factors for most of the visitors to southern Spain. The best part of having a car hire Malaga is that you can choose to either enjoy the busy city beaches or drive along the coast to find an oasis of your own.

Malaga is great and I have been twice. From Malaga you can catch the train to Torremolinas. There are heaps of bars, restaurants and shopping. You can go further south to Fuengirola, Marbella and Gibraltar. Dont forget to get your typhoid injections if you are going to swim in the sea. All the sewage along the coast goes direct into the sea. I'm amazed at the people who don't know this but after a storm it is very evident. There are nice little villages to visit inland and you take the train for these also and when you leave if you are flying out catch the train to the airport.

Social Conventions
Spanish life has undergone rapid change in recent decades and stricter religious customs have been superseded by more modern ways, particularly in the cities and among women. In spite of this, traditions remain strong; hospitality, chivalry and courtesy thrive. Handshaking is the customary form of greeting between men, while women (outside of a business context) are greeted with a fleeting kiss to either cheek (left then right).

Normal social courtesies should be observed when visiting someone's home, and a small gift is always appreciated. In bars and restaurants, one person normally pays for each round or meal, unless there are a lot of people. Conservative casual wear is widely acceptable. Outside resorts, scanty beachwear should be confined to beach or poolside.

Spaniards eat late; lunch around 1400-1530; the evening meal 2100-2300. The Spanish have two family names; the maternal surname follows the paternal, but is rarely used outside a formal context. Smoking is banned in offices, shops, schools, hospitals, cultural centers and on public transport. Bars and restaurants must declare whether they permit or prohibit smoking. The vast majority have opted for the former, though large restaurants are obliged by law to have a substantial non-smoking section.

Hi

Yes Malaga is certainly great, I try to visit it as often as I can. And Spain is also great for living, I have been here since 2001 and I have still not yet left it more than one trip to Gibraltar.
