Contrary to popular belief, there is not actually a passenger ferry service between Australia and New Zealand; it takes freight ships about 3 days to make this journey across the sea! Some cruise ships may include both Australia and New Zealand on their route, but I imagine what you had in mind was a direct transfer..?

So I think your only option is to fly. The main airports in NZ are Auckland and Christchurch and you can get connections from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane in Australia...start by looking at Qantas.

The distance between Auckland and Sydney is 1338.23 miles.

Cruise ships would be expensive and infrequent.

Your only option is to fly.

Hi Kissa,

I know some friends a few years back caught a freighter from Aus to NZ, maybe start at http://www.freightercruises.com/main/reservations.html, but am sure there are other options.

Hope this helps

I thought I was flying, not swimming. Going to sea with me is a terrible.

Hi Kissa,

As flying is the only option - the next thing you'll need to do is secure a good airfare. Qantas and Air New Zealand used to hold the monopoly over the trans-tasman flights, but these days you can get some awesome deals with Virgin and Jetstar. Both these airlines have happy hours when they discount their airfares even more - so it might be a good idea to check out their websites to confirm when they are held.
