Easy and fun!
I’ve tried many different courses during the last few years to try to learn Spanish and none of them have been as easy or effective as the Rocket Spanish online course.
When you purchase the course, you get your own login and password (which you can customize) so it’s very convenient; you can learn anywhere, anytime you’re online. Also, every bit of the course’s material is printer friendly so you don’t even have to be online to learn, just print off your lessons before hand, or after completing the to revise at another time.
Rocket Spanish is not only an excellent eBook, the course includes unlimited access to the website with a helpful online forum, games, a ‘motivation’ section which gives you advice on how to stay motivated and learn to the best of your potential, as well as many more useful features.
Now that I’ve completed the course, I can speak Spanish with confidence and am motivated to continue my studies of this language through the extra materials that are available to purchase from Rocket Spanish.
Listen and learn the correct pronunciation..
Whether you’re an auditory or a visual learner, or a bit of both, you’ll find that the Rocket Spanish lessons work for you. The lessons consist of 65 approximately 20 minute long audio clips and the content of the clips is easily viewable in Spanish and in English. When you learn from a book only, you cannot learn pronunciation as easily. You have to rely on the written pronunciation guides but these do not convey the subtleties that you will learn when you listen to the words pronounced properly.
The structure of the lesson is generally a conversation between two people, Mauricio and Amy. Then each phrase is studied one by one. Mauricio or Amy will explain the meaning and often elaborate, giving some related background information regarding Spanish/Latin American culture or some information about the rule of grammar being used. For example in the greeting section, Amy explains how when people meet in Spain and Latin America they will kiss each other on the cheek and this is an innocuous as shaking hands for North Americans.
Make your own notes along the way..
My Vocab is a great feature where you can add any word from your course materials to your own vocabulary list quickly and easily. By clicking on a word of your choice, the aBc My Vocab icon appears, you just click on this icon and fill in the pop up with the English translation of the word you’ve chosen, and any notes you want to make. Then you just save and close, it’s that simple and so useful.
You don’t just learn to understand, you learn to speak Spanish..
I especially like the way that you’re encouraged to familiarise yourself with speaking Spanish by saying words and phrases aloud. Mauricio Evlampieff, author of the course, will say a phrase and then leave a small silence in order to let you repeat what he’s just said. By saying the phrases aloud you become easily accustomed to speaking Spanish and when you have a conversation you’ll find that the words will come to you much more easily.
Test your progress..
Rocket Spanish thoroughly covers numerous useful topics that are frequent in daily conversation including socializing, family life, business and travelling. There’s a quiz at the end of each of the 65 units, which is a good way to tell whether or not you’re ready to continue on to the next unit.
Each time that you log in to Rocket Spanish, you are automatically shown your own overall progress report. Once you enter the ‘Your Course’ section of your site, a complete list of all the units is shown, and there’s a green tick next to the ones that you’ve fully completed (you have to score over 80% in the quiz in order to officially complete a unit). If you’ve been studying, but haven’t completed a unit, a grey tick will appear alongside it and if you haven’t studied it at all there is a cross. Therefore you can easily tell which units you’ve touched on or not and to what degree you’ve completed them.
Interesting eBook..
The accompanying eBook, ‘Beginners Spanish’ is excellent. It’s easy to use and is printer friendly. There are plenty of colourful illustrations, which to me make learning easier as I associate the words with the pictures! In any case I think it makes the learning more enjoyable when there are illustrations.
Fun Games..
There are also entertaining games which offer an easy and fun way to test yourself. ‘MegaCards’ are basically flash cards with a picture and accompanying Spanish caption, which you then have a limited amount of time to translate to English. Once the time is up the answer appears in text and also as an audio clip of Mauricio saying the phrase. I definitely feel the combination of pictures, written phrases and audio clips of the phrase really help to commit them to memory. There’s also the facility to write any notes you may have relating to the flash cards and submit them so that they’re always there every time you log in to your Rocket Spanish course.
Extra Vocabulary
As well as the eBook, and games there’s also an extra vocabulary section which includes useful words such as translations for all the days of the week, the months of the year etc which may not all have appeared within the basic lessons.
Plenty of material to study and plenty of available help..
There’s so much included in the Rocket Spanish Course, I found it hard to believe! It’s fully comprehensive, I didn’t come across anything that I felt was missing, in fact it exceeded my expectations of what an online language course would include. It includes easy access to an online forum with over 8000 posts, where you can find the answers to any questions you may have. If, however, you can’t find the answer here, you can even email Mauricio personally! There’s also a feedback facility; it does seem that Rocket Spanish strive to be the very best online Spanish language course and in my opinion they definitely are!
